Help Me Write

The Problem

Most common tasks users perform on the open web consist of writing. This includes leaving product reviews, restaurant reviews, comments on social media, posts, filling out forms, the list goes on! A large set of users reported wanting to either make these tasks easier or to feel more confident while performing these tasks.

As part of a larger initiative across Google to leverage AI in order to make our users lives easier, we pitched this feature to our leadership team as one to be fast tracked for a quicker go to market. The premise is that we create an ephemeral tool that is available across input fields on the web. Users can call on it to help them with any writing task. This feature leverages the latest AI model that the team is specifically trained to write responses using the context of the web page a user is currently browsing.

Getting Started

Users can right click on an input field to invoke Chrome’s context menu and select the “Help me write” option. They can either have selected text or opt to use our tool to help them write from scratch.

Input Field

Help me write will appear in context on the page. If a user had selected text, it will appear in the dialog, they can continue to draft a prompt or hit “Create” to send their request to our model.

Gemini Model Response and Modification Options

Our LLM will generate a response and update the dialog with an option for the user.

Insert Results

Once the user is satisfied with their writing result, they can inject it back into the field and continue with their task.
